New Baby

I’m so happy! I have a new sewing machine!

It’s a Janome Memory Craft 4800, a model that’s been retired, but is fully-loaded with lots of great features. I’m so excited to be “back in the saddle”.

This does have another consequence: the sale in my Etsy shop will end as of May 31st, so get your orders in! All of the listings have been discounted 10-20%—now is the right time to buy.

Now is also the right time to get your name down for any custom sewing projects you might have in mind. I think my summer schedule is likely to fill up quickly!

Bow Ties!

On our recent trip to Saskatchewan, we faced the conundrum of needing certain pieces of baby equipment, but not wanting to lug them across three provinces. We posed the question to my sister-in-law and she posed the question to her in-laws, who generously lent us a playpen, car seat, and high chair.

As a thank you, I made a couple of bow ties for the twin boys in their family.

These are going to be available in my shop, as soon as my sewing machine is running again. If you have an immediate need, send me an email and I’ll see what I can do. 🙂

I love both of these bow ties. The fabric makes me incredibly happy, and I was so pleased to find the bow tie hardware for a reasonable price on Etsy.

When would you dress your wee one in a bow tie? Do you think they’re just for special occasions or are they coming back for everyday wear? I don’t know which it is, but I think it should be the latter! They’re just so classy and fun. 🙂

The Backpack

I made this backpack using a pattern from Made-by-Rae.com.

I just love how it turned out.

The piping finishes it so nicely.

With adjustable straps, this bag easily fits my petite two-year-old, and would just as easily fit her 6-year-old friend.

There’s also tonnes of room on the inside.

This is everything we packed in for a trip to the dentist and the bag wasn’t even full. While Mommy and Daddy took turns getting their teeth cleaned, C entertained herself with colouring, reading, playing with her Little People figurines, and eating snacks from her Nest Boutique snack bag. And we had a change of clothes standing by in her mesh travel bag. Whew!

Are you interested in purchasing your own? Find it in my Etsy shop! If you’re looking for a school-age backpack or a smaller one (doll-sized, perhaps?) send me an email or contact me through Etsy.

Mesh Clothing Bags

I read an awesome idea in Today’s Parent this morning (the March 2013 issue). It had an entire article on ways to get organized and this was one of the suggestions:

Put your kids’ clothes away by daily outfit, rather than sorting by item. Make sure to include top, bottom, socks and underwear, as well as any sweaters, tights or leggings they may need.

What a great idea! And what better way to do that than by picking up some of my mesh clothing bags to keep each outfit together? 😉

The mesh allows you and your kids to see which outfit they’re choosing, and you won’t have your organizational hard work go to waste if your kids start rummaging around in their drawers. Perfect also for packing clothes for a long trip (no more lost socks!) and even for short ones.

My daughter is in the early stages of potty training (can stay dry but can’t yet take herself to the bathroom), so I keep a complete outfit for her, including a wet bag, in my own bag.

Then, if she has an accident while we’re out, I can quickly and easily get her cleaned up and ready to go. It’s also great for moving from bag to bag, whether it’s into my purse for a quick errand run, into my Lug bag for a longer day trip, or into my husband’s bag when he takes her on an adventure. Far easier than gathering all of the pieces each time.

Buy one or a dozen, in matching sets or all different colours, whatever will best suit your needs!

And check out the March 2013 Today’s Parent issue. There are some great tips in that article. (Or find it online here.)

Bunting Baby Quilt

Two weeks ago, I participated in a local craft show. As my first experience, it was awesome (though the turnout wasn’t great). The other vendors were friendly and I learned a lot. And it gave me the opportunity to put together a bunch of new products I’ve had in mind but haven’t had the push to make.

This is my favourite new product right now! I love the bunting design and the bold colours. It’s also, as all quilts should be, soft and cozy. For more pictures (or to pick one up), head on over to my Etsy shop!

Flower Girl Dress – Available Now!

The flower girl dress is now available on Etsy, here!

My wee model is too small, so this dress hangs about her a little. It’s still adorable, though, don’t you think?

This dress is made entirely from cotton poplin and broadcloth. The white poplin on the outside of the dress has delicately embroidered flowers and, along with pink poplin, it makes up the flounces of the dress. These flounces can be worn in front or back.

This dress can be made in different sizes or colours. Contact me to discuss details!

Keep smiling.

Gone, Baby, Gone

The Cupcake tissue box has sold, ladies and gentlemen.

But do not despair! It has gone to a lovely home, but there are more to come. Keep an eye out for the next batch of fabrics for this lovely little toy. Pictures will be up in the next couple of weeks.

Cotton Cupcake Tissue Box – New Toy!

There’s a new toy in the shop!

Made from several unique fabrics– cotton, velvet, polyester– this fully reversible cloth box is stuffed with six different pretend tissues, each with a different texture. The three cotton squares have four layers of crinkle material securely sewed inside to stimulate your baby’s auditory senses and delight them with the noise they can make. Let them explore the shape and feel of the three other squares: purple velvet, white textured flowers, and the smooth sheen of the multi-coloured diamonds. The box itself is reversible and stuffed with arctic fleece, giving your baby another squishy texture to experiment with.

I already have orders for more toys like this. I’ll be heading out to the store today to select fabric for them. Check back in a few days to see what’s been chosen!

As always, if you have any questions or special requests, leave a comment or send me an email here or on Etsy.

I look forward to hearing from you!
